Cryptococcus neoformans is an encapsulated yeast.

Infection with C. neoformans is known as cryptococcosis. Human infection of C. neoformans occurs via inhalation of aerosolized spores. From the lungs, C. neoformans is spread hematogenously to the Central Nervous System (CNS), resulting in meningoencephalitis.
